A simple step students can take to prevent undesired contact by military recruiters is to download, fill out, and submit the following two forms:
This LPS form should be filled out and turned in to your school office at the beginning of each school year. LPS is legally obligated to release your contact information to military recruiters upon request unless this form is submitted and you check the ‘military recruiters’ checkbox.
The JAMRS form should be filled out and mailed to the address provided on the form. This step needs to be performed only once as long as your mailing address does not change. A parent or legal guardian should sign this form if you are not yet 18 years old.
If you are thinking about enlisting and would like the perspective of a retired teacher in our group who has served in the military and who would be willing to discuss this decision with you, please let us know so we can have him contact you.
If you have already enlisted and are now having second thoughts, the confidential GI Rights Hotline may be able to offer you some help. They can also be reached by phone at 1-877-447-4487. Note that if you signed up for the Delayed Entry Program (DEP) you are NOT legally obligated to join until you report for duty – you can withdraw from the DEP. Contact the GI Rights Hotline for more information.
See the What Can I Do page for more steps that can be taken to help address the problem of undesired military recruitment directed towards young people.
See the Alternatives page for ideas on how to raise money for college or trade school, how to find employment, and so on, that does not involve the military.
Feel free to contact us with any questions or suggestions you may have. We would also be interested in hearing about your recruiting experiences.
