BOLD Nebraska has announced the availability of additional tickets for Saturday’s Willie & Neil concert at the Tanderup farm near Neligh. Greens will be gathering registered voters’ signatures on petitions for ballot access in 2016. We have cars going from Lincoln and Omaha, and we could really use a few more people to make the trip. There will be 7,500 potential signers. Obviously, the more people we have gathering signatures, the better.

Save the date: NGP Yard Sale and Fundraiser Oct. 18

Clean out your basement and give new life to your old stuff — all while benefiting the Green movement. The Nebraska Green Party Yard Sale will be Saturday, October 18, in Lincoln at 1645 South 22nd Street (22nd and Sumner). It’s not too soon to think about things you might contribute.

U.S. Green Party endorses Climate Convergence; Watch livestream

The Green Party has endorsed the NYC Climate Convergence being hosted this weekend in conjunction with the People’s Climate March in New York City. Join us in New York City and show the world that the Green Party is part of this historic event!

The NYC Climate Convergence schedule is available here. Jill Stein, Cheri Honkala, Howie Hawkins, Brian Jones, Margaret Flowers, and others will be speaking on global climate justice.

The Green Party will be livestreaming coverage of the Climate Convergence starting Friday evening at 7pm ET/4pm PT.

If you are participating in the People’s Climate March on Sunday, please join the Green Party contingent. The Howie Hawkins/Brian Jones for New York campaign and New York Green Party will be gathering at 79th Street and Central Park West, inside the gathering area for the march.

You must enter the area from the west at either 77th or 81st Streets, then walk to 79th Street to meet hundreds of other Greens. It is strongly advised to be within the march area by 10:30am to avoid being shut out if the march reaches capacity. Be safe, represent the Green Party peacefully, and let’s fight for climate justice!

Help end the death penalty in Nebraska: Sept. 30

NADP is excited to partner with local favorite Zipline Brewery for an evening with NADP! This is a chance to learn more about our work, help us raise funds to end the death penalty in Nebraska, and spend time with other wonderful NADP supporters. The event will take place on Tuesday, September 30, from 7 to 9 pm in Lincoln. Purchase tickets here or RSVP via Facebook.

Also, plans are well underway for our Annual Reception and Silent Auction. This year’s event will take place Monday, November 10, in the Harper Center at Creighton University from 7 to 8:30 pm and will feature keynote speaker Frank Thompson, former superintendent of Oregon’s death row, who oversaw two executions during his tenure. Finally, don’t forget to put March 4, 2015, on your calendar for the first-ever NADP Lobby Day. On that day, you’ll have the opportunity to come together with other abolition supporters from all over the state and tell your state senators that you want them to repeal the death penalty in 2015.

Join fellow Greens and other concerned citizens for the Climate March in Omaha:

In Solidarity with the People’s Climate March in NYC because we
care about what’s happening to the planet due to climate disruption and
we want our leaders to address the problem NOW.

In conjunction with the People’s Climate March taking place in New York
City on the same day, local groups and individuals will join together in
a solidarity action to highlight the reality of climate change and the
urgent necessity to do something about it.

All are invited to meet at Memorial Park near the ball diamond promptly
at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 21st. We’ll listen to speakers, rally a
bit, and then (for those who want to) march, bike or drive to the Dundee
Community Garden to join Transition Omaha for a solar tour, which
includes the new off-grid panels at the garden and the new on-grid
panels at a residence three blocks away from the garden. Tours will run
every 15 minutes or so starting around 2 p.m.; marchers can rotate
between the tour locations.

There will be refreshments at the Garden, and everyone who would like to
partake is encouraged to bring their own water bottles, plates,
silverware and napkins as we try to keep waste to a minimum.

There will be some signs available to rally and march with, but feel
free to make your own. And it would be great to have some music, too,
while we’re rallying and walking, so you musicians out there, please
bring your instruments!

It appears the march toward war is on once again. NOW is the time to call your U.S. Senators and Representatives. Let them know:

1. ISIS and the disintegration of Iraq and Syria are political and social issues that cannot be solved militarily.

2. Our military interventions in the region have already cost us much and gained us little.

3. The decision to go to war must be made democratically; we cannot re-constitute the rationale of a 13-year-old Act of Congress that — even back then — irresponsibly granted the Executive Branch far-reaching, unchecked war-making powers.

4. There is an alternative approach: Build an international coalition to starve violent militants of money and arms. End the violence, rather than perpetuating it.

Heuermann Lecture Sept. 25: Climate Change in Nebraska

Please help us spread the word about an important event that will take place on Thursday, September 25th, 3 to 5 p.m. at UNL’s new Innovation Campus Conference Center.

Understanding and Assessing Climate Change: Implications for Nebraska is a Heuermann Lecture Series presentation. It includes a reception, presentation of recent study findings compiled by UNL experts on the impact of climate change on Nebraska, and a panel discussion. The event is sponsored by the Institute for Agriculture and Natural Resources (IANR) and will be led by Donald Wilhite, Emeritus Director and Professor of the National Drought Mitigation Center. It is free and open to the public. Please consider attending.

Even an agricultural powerhouse like Nebraska, sitting atop one of the largest fresh-water aquifers in the world, is projected to face water shortages in the decades to come. Potable water, it turns out, is not only essential for life. It’s essential to creating the conditions for peace.

KXL Supreme Court hearing this Friday, Sept. 5

On Friday, Sept. 5, the Nebraska Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in Thompson v. Heineman, the case pitting three Nebraska landowners fighting to protect their land from eminent domain and TransCanada’s proposed Keystone XL pipeline, against an unconstitutional law passed by the Nebraska legislature fast-tracking the pipeline route approval process.

The hearing will take place at 9 a.m. at the Nebraska Supreme Court, located inside the State Capitol building in Lincoln.
