Nebraska has become\u00a0internationally known for\u00a0sandhill cranes; in March,\u00a0tourists come \u00a0from many\u00a0states and countries to\u00a0view the largest sandhill\u00a0crane party in the world.\u00a0Don’t miss these iconic\u00a0migrants as they pause at\u00a0their ancestral Platte\u00a0River during a sort of annual\u00a0spring break for cranes. A full weekend of fun is available during\u00a0Audubon’s Nebraska Crane Festival in Kearney March 19 – 22, or\u00a0if you prefer an afternoon expedition, join Wachiska Audubon’s\u00a0crane caravan to the Grand Island area. We’ll use our cars as\u00a0blinds as we view flocks of cranes feeding, stick-tossing, and\u00a0dancing in the fields. A late afternoon stop at the visitor center\u00a0will give us an opportunity for a little break. We’ll then head to\u00a0the Platte River at sunset to watch their epic arrival as throngs of\u00a0cranes stream through the sky and amass on the river to roost\u00a0for the night.<\/p>\n
